We had some bandwidth issues with everyone's Outlook downloading new profiles so they had half the workforce use OWA for a few days but before long everything was working quite well. But once it finally got there, we imported the data into the mailboxes and everyone was up and running after a long weekend. Unfortunately Hurricane Sandy showed up and they had a little trouble shipping the data to the new datacenter on a hard drive. I then ran some scripts that would read these XML files and recreate the entire AD/Exchange structure in the new system, and all that was left was to import the PST files. The resulting files were hundreds of megabytes and most XML readers would lock up when opening them but by traversing the file with Powershell calls I verified that the data was good. I built a few scripts, one for users/mailboxes and one for groups/DGs that outputted an XML file containing everything I needed to recreate the environment on a brand new vanilla system including DG management, permissions, etc. But they were willing to run a couple of PS scripts and send me the output as well as export the mailbox data as PSTs. They built out a new AD/Exchange 2010 environment but needed to get the users & groups, mailboxes & DGs, and data migrated over but the hosting provider wasn't willing to do much if anything. Their AD and Exchange was all outsourced (this was before Office 365 was big) but the relationship had gone sour and they decided to move everything in-house. One of my first really serious PS gigs happened back in 2012, a client came to me with an odd yet urgent scenario. Yep, the things I do in Powershell are nothing short of amazing.
